1050 alloy aluminum sheet for heat sink is a wrought aluminium with light weight, good corrosion resistance, high ductility, good heat conductivity, zero toxicity and nice processing properties. Various heat sinks can be made by 1050, for the alloy has a low strength. The function of a hint sink is to make the medium of different temperature perform cold-to-heat conversion, and to reach the use temperature of the different mediums. The thermal conductivity of the air conditioner determines the speed of temperature adjustment. Thus the heat sink material must be good in thermal conductivity. 1050 aluminium alloy just meet such a requirement.

The heat transfer performance of aluminum alloy is better than that of stainless steel, and the heat transfer performance is directly proportional to the thermal conductivity. The thermal conductivity of alloy aluminum is 204/W·(m·k), while the thermal conductivity of stainless steel is only 14/W·(m·k), so the heat transfer performance of aluminum alloy is better than that of stainless steel. The thermal conductivity of pure aluminum is better than that of aluminum alloy, so it is a good choice to use pure 1050 aluminum sheet to make the heat sinks.

Although 1050 alloy aluminum sheet can not compete with copper as a heat sink material, it’s much cheaper lighter, and the integrated weight and property are excellent as well. Ductile as it is, 1050 aluminum sheet can be made into heat sinks of varied shapes. Its corrosion resistance is the strongest among ordinary industrial metals. Copper rusts in a short period of time, but aluminium gets stronger over the time. Most important of all, aluminium costs far less than copper. There are two reasons for this. First, the content of aluminum in geology is higher than that of copper, second only to oxygen and silicon. In other words, it is a rich mineral deposit. Second, the current mainstream process is electrolytic aluminum production and coke reduction method copper production, and aluminum production costs are lower. The two reasons decide that aluminum alloys will be advantageous over copper in a period of time.
