Based on practical experience in production selection, many customers easily confuse 3003 and 3005 color coated aluminum coils. Both are aluminum-manganese rust-resistant alloys, but 3005 aluminum has an additional trace amount of magnesium, significantly improving its overall performance. It is particularly suitable for applications requiring a certain level of rigidity, long-term outdoor exposure, and undergoing rolling and bending processes. It is also a substrate with rapidly growing demand in overseas building materials markets in recent years.

Regarding specifications, Haomei Aluminum can stably supply 3005 color coated aluminum coils with a thickness range of 0.28-1.5 mm and an effective width of 500-1650 mm. Core inner diameters are typically 150 mm, 405 mm, and 508 mm, and thickness tolerance can be stably controlled within ±0.02 mm. The 3005 aluminum coil uses two of the most common tempers, H14 and H24. H14 has a tensile strength of 145-200 MPa, a yield strength ≥115 MPa, and an elongation ≥4%, suitable for molding, louvers, and exterior wall cladding. H24 has lower processing internal stress and less springback, suitable for deep bending and complex forming workpieces. The coating system is divided into three main categories: high-weather-resistant polyester (HDP), silicon-modified polyester (SMP), and PVDF fluorocarbon. The dry film thickness is 18-22 μm for polyester coatings and ≥25 μm for fluorocarbon coatings. The gloss is adjustable from 5-85° and can be precisely matched according to RAL and NCS color codes.
The alloy composition is the fundamental reason for the performance advantages of 3005 color coated aluminum coil. Manganese content is controlled at 1.0-1.5%, magnesium at 0.2-0.6%, and impurities are strictly limited to ≤0.6% silicon, ≤0.7% iron, and ≤0.3% copper. The low-copper formulation effectively reduces the risk of electrochemical corrosion in coastal environments. The dispersed aluminum-manganese metal particles form a stable passivation layer, improving overall deformation resistance by approximately 20% compared to 3003 color coated aluminum coil at the same thickness. This reduces the probability of roofing and shading components warping in strong winds, a point I’ve observed most directly during production: with the same processing technology, 3005 aluminum generally produces smoother finished products with lower deformation failure rates in later use.
Regarding the coating process, the entire line employs chromium-free passivation pretreatment, controlling the conversion film thickness to 50-90 nm to ensure adhesion between the coating and the substrate, achieving a grade 0 in cross-cut adhesion testing. Roller coating equipment is equipped with an online coating thickness gauge, controlling coating thickness deviation within ±2 μm. Xenon lamp aging and 240-hour neutral salt spray testing are mandatory inspection items before shipment. Feedback from actual export cases indicates that ordinary polyester coatings are suitable for dry inland areas; HDP high-weather-resistant polyester is preferred for high-temperature, high-humidity, and mildly humid coastal areas; and PVDF fluorocarbon solutions are recommended for near-shore cities and high-UV areas, significantly reducing the risk of fading and chalking later on.
The applications of 3005 color coated aluminum coil cover building roofs, exterior wall panels, sunshade louvers, roller shutters and windows, billboard substrates, and some appliance exterior panels. One practical production tip to remind customers: 3005 aluminum has higher strength than 3003 aluminum; when bending, it is recommended to appropriately increase the bending radius and reduce the stamping speed to avoid micro-cracks at sharp corners. The material itself cannot be strengthened by heat treatment; its forming performance relies on the rolling and annealing processes for control. Haomei Aluminum effectively reduces residual stress in the coil through an online stress homogenization process, minimizing edge warping issues during later processing.
With its balanced corrosion resistance, forming ability, and cost-effectiveness, 3005 color coated aluminum coils have been exported in large quantities to Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and South America. Each batch of products comes with a material certificate and coating performance test report, supporting third-party re-inspection. If you are looking for a color-coated raw material that balances rigidity, weather resistance, and ease of processing, 3005 aluminum is a very reliable choice.
