Differences between 1050 and 1100 aluminum circle discs

October 15, 2019

Both 1050 aluminum circle and 1100 aluminum circle discs are used frequently in the industrial production. Although the whole 1000 series of aluminium are usually regarded as a whole, there are slight differences between the two.

1050 and 1100 aluminum circle

The first difference lies in aluminum content. 1050 aluminum circle has a content above 99.5, with less impurities than 1100 (Si, Cu…etc.), while the content of 1100 is 99.0% and more. The higher the purity of an aluminum circle, the lower the hardness, thus the 1100 circle is harder than the 1050 in physical properties. The second difference is related to application. The 1050 circle is used in products requiring high corrosion resistance, good forming ability but low strength, and chemical equipment is its typical use. While an 1100 aluminum circle is used for processing parts that require good formability and high corrosion resistance but do not require high strength, such as chemical products, food industry equipment and storage containers, sheet metal parts, deep drawing or spinning concave vessels, welding parts, heat exchangers, printing plates, nameplates, reflective appliances, etc. As for tempers, the two share a lot in common. Regular tempers for them include O, H12, H14, H24, H26, H32 etc, depending on practical usages and relative requirements in hardness.

In a word, 1050 and 1100 aluminum circle plates have a lot in common, since both are members of 1000 series. But it’s impossible to replace them with each other in many occasions, although rumors say that some manufacturers replace 1060 with 1050 or things like that. Responsible suppliers would never do things like that, for they are in pursuit of long term cooperation rather than one-time business relationship.
